Are you good at setting healthy relationship boundaries? This skill is critical to building a relationship that balances closeness with independence, which is key to all healthy relationships. And it’s a skill that’s just as important to practice with friends and family members as it is with romantic partners.

Setting relationship boundaries – both emotional and physical – means that you honor your own needs as much as you honor those of others.  How do you do that? If this is a skill you haven’t practiced much, it helps to start with small steps and statements that may feel awkward at first, but will become easier as you gain confidence from practice. In effect, you’ll be teaching people how you want and expect to be treated.
